The Scrolls of Mahendranath
The sixteen writings that form The Scrolls of Mahendranath.
Pagan India as one current: Veda, Yoga, Vedanta, Tantra. Householder and renunciate paths, Dattatreya, the Nath revival under Matsyendranath and Gorakhnath.
The Adinath stream: suffering from a wrong stance toward the world, not from the world. Nivritti, Dattatreya as Adi-Guru, a hard word against monastery and modern yoga-as-exercise.
Dattatreya as the type of the pathless path. Digambara, and the three working terms pratibha, sahaja, samarasa.
Tantra as a life. Meditation, breath, and the trained sexual rite; Pagala Baba; the three super faculties.
The INO’s first charter: svecchachara, the four keywords, and release from karmas, kleshas, and conditioning.
The work itself: will and imagination against the KKK matrix. Twilight as the hour of the sitting.
The Alpha Ovule, and five rites: Birth, Phallos, Worship, Weirdglow, Death.
London as a working site. The zonule, the Guardian (Umbra) Spirit, a childhood daimon, and a note on Crowley.
A Kaula teaching-story from Kailash: the left-turning path, Lalita, the mantra HRIM SHRIM KRIM.
Nine centers, bindu, and sexual joy as the spark for Kundalini Shakti. Iccha, Jnana, Kriya.
A prospectus for the Aquarian stretch: Phaeton’s tablets, spiral magick, “the will to love is the law to live.”
How a Nath is to sit and think. An “invisible screen” against polluted thought; the five kleshas named.
Precepts for a magickal life: harm almost never, the Guardian Spirit, experiment, peace-freedom-happiness as the aim.
Verse. Cities burned back to forest; Shiva–Shakti; a Pagan remnant.
Verse. Realization over speculation. The book burned at the root.
Guru Purnima, 18 July 1989. He steps back. Kapilnath is named Imperator Magus Mundi.
The Poems of Mahendranath
OM as the air under the birds — present, ignored.
One God, one world, one people. “A drop of water separate from the rain.”
Gurudev pointing; yoga; the gold mask on the idol.
The soul already knows. No extra realization to acquire.
A consecration of body and will. Thelema named.
Why he is called Mahendra: three gods share the name; Lokanatha’s diksha.
Divinity unnoticed — “as the rose knows nothing of its fragrance.”
Sitting as the furnace. Lead to gold.
Paramahamsa Gita. The tired naked yogi; sky as garment.
True yogis stay hidden. The swan that separates milk from water.
Avadhut refusal of the world’s jobs. The swan breaking chain.
Knew vs Know. Superstition set down for the present tense.
Atman one; Maya the split. No day without killing something.
The naked hermit. Squirrels and birds as company.
Dance; “do what you will” as the only law.
No parish rule. Each takes a turn leading the dance.
Do not grow up into the miserable adult. “Dance naked and sing.”
A borderless fancy: humans as stars, bare on the beach.
The fat laughing god and his army of drop-outs.
God taking a body in order to use the senses.
Ash-smeared, naked Shiva as the Absolute.
An oration at the dhuni. “Homage to the Naked Fire.”
The guru-mantra as a seed explosion.
A dream-ordeal: wood, whip, wizard.
Spells on a dull world. “Sprinkle the world with weirdshit and wonder.”
An oracle: vices, a wrecked ground, rune-stones beginning to move.
Bowl, robe, today only. “Each day I live is life enough.”
Do not mourn. “Of all of life, Death is the best.”
A farewell from the wandering magician. Love for a blighted species.
The daily round of ten thousand useless things.
The calm one who will not reform the world — only walk a person to the other shore.
A long song of the old dharma: India as the school, the procession of lives.
Other Writings by Mahendranath
The Absolute as a long investment across lives. Intensity now is the only useful sign.
A thinking power fills the cosmos; each person carries a particle of it. Magick is that particle put to work.
Meditation and puja as cooperation, not paid guidance. “Togetherness is essential” — festivals, a social order that can stand.
A manual for paradox. Magick defined as irresistible influence; a Rudra mantra for a stuck problem; breath-counting as the daily tool.
Threes and fives: peace-freedom-happiness; iccha, jnana, kriya; the five kleshas. Nationalism, racism, and religion named as the three dividing delusions.
An invocation: Insight, Intuition, Imagination. Shiva to Thoth in one list.
A teaching-story: Snafu Raj, Loadstar, Lalita. Outer-court Kaula for the Aquarian stretch; Hring Shring Kring.
The night of Shiva. Pashupatinath and Girnar; Naga gatherings; digambara as submission to the Absolute.
Mind-to-mind transmission (the flower to Mahakashyapa). Zen set beside Yoga-Vidya and Dattatreya; no method as the method.
Why the revolutions failed. The “establishment” as a ghost in the group mind. Beat, hippie, and the few who left drugs for a real guru.
Western sadhu-costume without diksha. The Austrian who died in Delhi. One subject, held — not a rack of costumes.
Cannibalism, Aghori flesh, Sinclair’s Jungle. What a culture will swallow, and what it will not name.
The left-turning life stated at length. Dakshina vs Vama; pashu, vira, divya; svecchachara. Rites of lingam-yoni, the turn-about, the solitary working.
Imagination as a power. The Natha mind “as 1000 mirrors.” Keywords and Twilight Yoga gathered for a Western reader.
A false grimoire that still teaches: elementals of five, Lalita, the wreck of Phaethon. Will, and the danger of calling what you cannot hold.
Sadhana in the burning ground. Vamamarga, pashu-vira-divya, the erotic rite among ashes.
The penumbra next to waking life. The Guardian Spirit (his was “Wamgoperic” / Magic Power). Not a Christian demon.
1985, to a Seattle circle. Why he planted a Western Nath Order: India thinning, America loud and unsure.
The naked keeper of the Narmada dhuni, set against a scripture-saint at Hubli. The fire at Khandwa; trustees who later banned the naked.
Wartime Cairo. Guénon’s circle, Shambhala/Agharti talk, the Sphinx between barracks.
Two 1970s notices: a “Pagan International,” then a Tantrik order from his Uttara-Kaula diksha. Kali as the public face of that turn.
Digambara — clothed in the sky. Pre-Aryan austerity, Jain and Hindu remnants, why cloth became a problem for empires.
The Occult World of a Tantrik Guru
I. Occult sciences as microcosm–macrocosm work. Pre-Aryan Kaula/Shakta Tantrika against later distortions. Sets up the initiation that follows.
II. Ranchi, 1963. Pagala Baba, last Kaulacharya of that Uttara-Kaula line, gives him diksha after first refusing. Kali temple; he is named successor.
III. Shakti as the Absolute in motion. Guru before old books. A note on why modern Shakta in India went thin, and why the Goddess still speaks to Western Paganism.
Kaula as a life: enjoyment and release together (bhukti-mukti-karanika). Kali Yuga / Aquarius as the hour when the closed teaching may be said in public.
Yoga as union in ordinary acts, not a distant prize. A rebuke of Blavatsky, Hodgson, Woodroffe; Pagala Baba; the panchatattva including maithuna.
